HAVANA, May 27 (Fara Armenteros, UPECI / www.cubanet.org) - Two government
officials threatened independent journalist Carlos Serpa Maceira May 25 as he
photographed a small housing development thats been without water for more
than three years.
Santa Iris Borrero, an organizer with the Cuban Womens Federation, and
Miguel Galano, a coordinator with the Committees for the Defense of the
Revolution, threatened to beat Serpa and break his camera in the township of La
Demajagua.
"The officials aggressiveness contrasted with the show of
solidarity of the residents," said Serpa.
Serpas home had been stoned May 8, reportedly traumatizing his wife
and 9-year-old daughter. Serpa said he has reported the attacks against him to
the police and to the municipal prosecutor and is awaiting a response.
