PINAR DEL RIO, May 1 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI / www.cubanet.org)
- The political police has been harassing relatives and neighbors of Dr. Hanoy
Hernández since he established an independent medical practice in Guane,
Pinar del Río province, in January of this year.
"Yurianela Sotolongo, a friend and neighbor of Dr. Hernández,
was interrogated April 22 by two officers from the Department of State Security
in Guane," said Dr. Sergio Ruiz Rivas, of the Cuban Medical Association.
Ms. Sotolongo told UPECI that the officers questioned her for three hours,
asking about Dr. Hernández, his wife, and other relatives.
"They asked about his habits, his behavior, and what he talks about
with patients who go to the office to be seen," said Sotolongo.
"They told me that the Revolutionaries [government partisans] in the
area dont look favorably on my visits to Dr. Hernández home,"
said Sotolongo.
Also questioned at length by State Security operatives was Dr. Hernández
brother-in-law, Camilo Capote.
Major Ivan Osuna told Capote that Dr. Hernández parents, who
live in the United States, will not be able to visit Cuba as long as the doctor
operates an independent medical facility.
Recently Dr. Hernández mother was denied a Cuban visa, and the
doctors sister, who is married to an American, is not allowed to leave the
country to join her husband.
