PRISIÓN VALLE GRANDE, July 8 (Carlos Alberto Domínguez,
Cuba-Verdad / www.cubanet.org) - Trial has been set for July 9 for a Cuban
accused of illegally entering the island.
Humberto Guevara Consuegra, 34, who lived in the U. S. since September,
2000, entered Cuba in October, 2001 aboard a fast boat in order to, as he said,
join his wife and three children.
According to Guevara, the boat in which he was traveling was shot and rammed
by a Cuban border guard patrol boat. He was then arrested and has been held
since, first at Villa Maristas, headquarters of the political police, and since
December at the Villa Grande prison in Havana.
A Department of State Security captain who only gave his name as Ariel,
charges Guevara with trafficking in people and belonging to anti-Castro groups
in Miami.
Guevara said that he approached the Cuban interests office in Washington to
return to Cuba legally, but when they didnt respond, he decided to go back
on his own.
