CAMAGUEY, July 5 (Alejandro González Raga, ACP "El Mayor" /
www.cubanet.org) - For a week now, operations at an engine repair facility here
have been at a stand-still, a symptom that locals interpret as an omen of the
facilitys imminent permanent shut-down.
The facility, the Asociación Económica Internacional-Diesel,
or the Diesel-International Economic Association, is a joint venture with
Canadian capital, and it primarily repairs Diesel engines used in the sugar
harvest.
The facility, which is located inside the city limits, is a noisy nuisance
to the neighbors, but it also employs almost a hundred workers, who enjoy
certain perks as a result of the companys status as a joint venture with
foreign capital.
