PINAR DEL RIO, July 5 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI (www.cubanet.org)
- Three government officials in Pinar del Río province held a series of
meetings with doctors and other health professionals to warn them about the
possibility of a new independent medical office in Sandino municipality, similar
to the one already existing in neighboring Guane.
The independent medical office in question was opened by a doctor who offers
services free to all comers and is operated independently of the governments
public health establishment.
Captain Ángel Antúnez, Communist Party official Rosa Tamari,
and municipal public health director Dr. Carlos Pérez, have been
spreading the message that "new dissidences in the public health sector
will not be tolerated."
"The topic has been discussed in the polyclinics and other health
establishments, and the idea behind the meetings is to offer the official
version of the doctors who participate in the independent medical offices
program," said local activist Horacio Julio Piña.
In the meeting held at the polyclinic in the town of Manuel Lazo, the
government official called Drs. Hanoi Hernández and José Cruz "counterrevolutionaries
and enemy agents." He added that others should be very careful in any
contacts with them, because they could be provided with "sensitive
information."
