SANTA CLARA, July 4 (Omar Ruiz, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) - Thousands
of fish have died in the Tales Díaz dam in Cruces, Cienfuegos province,
as a result of pollutants dumped by the Mal Tiempo sugar mill.
Merino Cabrera, a local activist, said local authorities know about the
problem and havent taken any steps to remedy it.
"These practices, which cause the death of thousands of fish in the dam
havent worried the local officials," said Cabrera, adding that
instead they choose to prosecute local residents who go fishing for something to
put on the dinner table.
