Street peddlers persecuted in Camagüey

CAMAGÜEY, October 9 (Mario Enrique Mayo, CPIC / CubaNet) - Local police and inspectors in Camagüey sistematically persecute street peddlers such as Felipe Hernández, 40, whom they fined 500 pesos for selling garlic and bananas.

At the same time, Hernández's daughter-in-law was told she would be fined 1,500 pesos if she was seen selling fruit.

Some here say that the government will not issue the appropriate licenses and permits to street peddlers despite that they represent a benefit to consumers, by selling food and other items not otherwise available.

Officials in charge of persecuting peddlers do so in a Girón bus with license plate CSM-593.
