Chemical reagent used in hepatitis test not effective

CIENFUEGOS, January 3 (Dr. Sunset Nogueras Rofes) – The chemical reagent used by the Ministry of Public Health in laboratory tests to detect hepatitis comes from a defective lot and gives false results, say laboratory technicians who refused to be identified.

The reagent in question is of domestic manufacture and is meant to detect the presence of an enzime given off in increasing amounts by the liver upon exposure to hepatitis. It is reportedly the only reagent available in the country in the midst of a hepatitis epidemic here.
