Cuban prisoners of conscience sent open letter of complaint

HAVANA, November 12 (www.cubanet.org) - Eight dissidents confined at the Kilometer 5 ½ prison in Pinar del Rio province have written an open letter denouncing their treatment.

The prisoners complained in a letter dated October 27 and smuggled out of the prison that family visits were limited to once every three months and conjugal visits once every five months. They also said their wives were subjected to body searches during their visits.

Among the complaints were prohibitions on watching television, listening to radio or visiting the prison library.

The letter was signed by Héctor Palacios Ruiz, Diosdado González Marrero, José Daniel Ferrer García, Normando Hernández González, José Ubaldo Izquierdo Hernández, Leonel Grade de Peralta, Arturo Pérez de Alejo and Oscar Elías Biscet. They were among 75 dissidents sentenced in April for anti-government activities.
