HAVANA, March 15 (Amarilys Cortina, Cuba-Verdad / www.cubanet.org) - Two
thirteen-year-old boys were arrested in Havanas International Airport
February 25 under suspicion of trying to hitch a ride in an airliner.
The two, Harol Domínguez and another whose name has not been released
by his parents, were taken to a police station and questioned for six hours
before their parents were notified.
Harols 17-year-old brother, Hensoll, said an Interior Ministry officer
by the name of Matos told them to go to the police station to pick up Harol.
Harol later said police wanted to know if they meant to hitch a ride in the
landing gear of an airliner, which he denied. The two allegedly bore knapsacks
containing coats and rope when arrested.
Harol Domínguez and his family have visas to travel to U.S. since
June 2000, but the Cuban government has not allowed them to leave. His father is
the independent journalist Carlos Alberto Domínguez, arrested and in jail
since February 24.
