PINAR DEL RIO, March 1 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI /
www.cubanet.org) The shooting of two motorists under strange circumstances here
has left residents feeling increasingly insecure, coming as it does on the wake
of a theft of hand guns from a target range on February 13.
On the night of February 24, two motorists whose identity has not been
released, were trying to repair their malfunctioning automobile at about
kilometer 88 on the National Highway, when a masked man rode up on a bicycle and
took several shots at them.
After the shooting, the man fled, leaving the bicycle behind.
The two men, said resident Bernardo Herrera, were wounded and presumably
taken to the hospital.
Apparently police have beefed up security, as residents say they lately have
seen police cars with Havana license plates patrolling the region.
