PINAR DEL RIO, Feb. 4 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI /
www.cubanet.org) - An independent medical doctor's office opened its doors to
the general public in Guane, Pinar del Rio. The center, which doesn't belong to
the Ministry of Public Health, will be run by the Medical School of Cuba, and
will offer primary care to the city's population.
Doctor Héctor de la Caridad Cruz Santovenia explained that the office
is located in the home of doctor Hanoi Humberto Hernandez, 16 Murrieta Commander
St., Guane, and will be open from 4 p.m.
The project was design as a response to repeated complains from residents
that the doctors at the government medical offices were not available during the
night.
Doctor Cruz said that in spite of the lack of basic equipment they had
already managed to solve some emergencies.
"We need solidarity from those that care and can help us with some
resources, since we will continue to open new centers throughout Pinar del Rio",
he concluded.
