HAVANA, September 23 (Aleida Godínez Soler, Lux InfoPress) - Agents
of the Department of State Security arrested a number of dissidents in Matanzas
province the day before they were to hold a memorial for two political prisoners
who died in jail under misterious circumstances.
The agents arrested labor organizers Sergio González Suárez
Inclán, Iván Hernández Carrillo, Arnaldo Gutiérrez
Lima, Juan Pedroso Esquivel, Ruperto Martínez Reyes, Ricardo López,
and Félix Navarro Rodríguez on September 12. Hernández
Carrillo has been nominated for the Reebok Human Rights prize.
Also arrested were a dozen other political dissidents. All were released
after 18 hours.
