HOLGUIN, September 5 (Juan Carlos Garcell, APLO / CubaNet) - Police have not
recovered the microscope stolen from the Levisa polyclinic August 23.
"The agents from the Technical Investigative Department don't have a
clue as to the whereabouts of the microscope," complained a local
resident. According to insiders, the theft was discovered the next day, when the
lab technician tried to look at the blood samples.
"The technician didn't find the equipment in its place, while patients
outside waited to learn the results of their tests. When they found out about
the missing microscope, people became upset, because this is the only lab in the
region. People come here from the mining towns of Levisa and Nicaro," said
one employee.
The prevailing theory so far is that the theft happened at night, and that
the thief or thieves broke in through a window taking advantage of the lack of
night lights in the facility.
Meanwhile, the Public Health Ministry has not assigned a replacement to the
polyclinic and the region's population have no access to lab tests.
