CAMAGÜEY, September 3 (CPIC) Marina Aguilar was fired from her job as
a customs inspector here because she took her sister who was visiting from the
U.S. to the airport to take a plane home at the end of her visit.
Aguilar had been working in the provincial customs department for several
years.
"The decision was ratified at the different levels to which I appealed,"
said Aguilar. She said she had finally written a letter to Fidel Castro asking
that her case be reviewed, but had received no answer yet.
Customs chief Mariano Castañeda put political considerations ahead of
family ties, according to Aguilar. He did not take into account that she was
bidding farewell to a sister who had come into the country legally as a visitor.
