The Independent National Working Confederation of Cuba (CONIC), funded on
February 22, 2001 as a representative option of the interests of the Cuban
workers, will celebrate its first congress this Monday September 3, in the City
of Havana.
Among the topics that will be discussed are:
- Freedom of ssociation and protection of the right to organise convention.
- The need of a transition [process towards democracy.
- The incidence on Cuban workers of the ominous economic policy implemented
by the government of the island.
- The constant violations of the labor human rights.
- The nonrespect to the International Norms of Labor.
- The freedom of the political prisoners and of conscience.
- The need of international solidarity to Cuban workers.
The Union Federation of Electrical Plants, as the international
representative of the CONIC, has been developing a support frame to the
development of its first congress. Numerous group of organizations and
personalities of Cuban exile have joined this effort in solidarity and
unconditional support to the just demands of the workers and unionists and
opponents on the island.
