HAVANA, October 19 (Carlos Alberto Domínguez, Cuba-Verdad / CubaNet)
- A tour of 12 pharmacies in Arroyo Naranjo, in the outskirts of Havana,
revealed there is no aspirin available in the municipality.
Clerks at the pharmacies were not able to say why. "We don't know why
there are no aspirins," said one of them.
The scarcity of medicines in Cuba became acute after the collapse of the
socialist block led to what the Cuban government called the "special
period." Yet, aspirin was always available in most facilities of the Public
Health ministry, leading residents to wonder what is missing now.
Some say there is no paper to wrap them; others blame the effects of the
September 11 terrorist attacks on the Cuban economy.
Meanwhile, the government press has not mentioned that there is no aspirin
in Arroyo Naranjo.
