HAVANA, October 18 (Amarilis Cortina Rey, Cuba-Verdad / CubaNet) - Members
of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) that show outstanding
performance in discharging duties assigned to them may be able to buy a
Chinese-made Panda TV set if an assembly of their peers grants them the right to
do so.
One CDR member who asked not to be identified said that the CDR to which he
belongs was allocated three sets, which may be bought by three deserving members
who participate in all activities and keep night watches, as required.
Another source said 900 sets have been allocated to the CDRs in El Cerro, a
Havana municipality. Some say that will not be enough, since there is a CDR in
every city block.
CDRs were created in the early 60s to watch for suspicious counter
revolutionary activity at the neighborhood level.
