HAVANA, October 18 (Amarilis Cortina Rey, Cuba-Verdad / CubaNet) -
Incentives paid in hard currency to workers at Havana's José Martí
international airport have been suspended, according to an informed source, who
also said the number of workers will be reduced soon."We don't know how
many workers will be cut or when, but we know dollar earnings are down," he
said.
Last week, airport workers were told in a meeting that an unspecified number
of them would be sent home at 60 percent pay in pesos.
Tourism, one of the main earners of hard currency for the beleaguered Cuban
economy, has decreased significantly since September 11.
