HAVANA, October 16 (Carlos Alberto Domínguez, Cuba-Verdad / CubaNet)
- A locally made toothpaste that irritates the mouth of its users can be quite
effective in cleaning pots and pans, say consumers here.
The toothpaste is sold in orange-colored plastic tubes which read: Gel
Shampoo. Habana 91 Champú Jalea, for one peso and is manufactured by the
local cosmetics concern Suchel. According to a store clerk who gave her name as
Elizabeth, the product was sold briefly at the beginning of the "special
period" in the early 90s, but had been withdrawn from the market after
consumers complained of lesions in the soft tissues of the mouth.
She said that some people buy the toothpaste to wash pots and pans, for
which they claim it is very effective.
