MATANZAS, October 8 (Caridad Diaz Beltrán, Lux InfoPress) - In a
meeting at the state-run cooperative of farming production (CPA) Flor de Cuba,
of the municipality of Columbus, the independent farmers of Niceto Perez of
Matanzas were threatened by a civil employee of the ANAP (state controlled
Cuba's National Association of Small Producers) with the confiscation of their
land if they were absent more than twice from future meetings.
According to the civil employee, the order comes from the president of the
ANAP Orlando Lugo Fonte.
The independent farmers at the meeting reacted angrily to the threats,
questioning the good will of the government towards Cuban farmers. One of the
attendants request the ANAP's employee for a copy of the law, but was ignored.
