HAVANA, October 1 (Juan Carlos Linares / CubaNet) - Foreign tourism has
decreased considerably in the Cuban capital after the terrorist attacks against
the United States on September 11.
Since then, the hotel Ambos Mundos, in the historic area of Old Havana, has
been more than 50 percent empty.
"Other tourist attractions face the same situation," said an
employee in the industry, who added that the number of tourists had decreased
before the attacks, until the bottom fell out after September 11.
"Of course, this means the situation for the average Cuban is going to
get worse. It is expected that food and other basic products are going to be
scarce," the man said.
Already, dwindling stocks in the dollar stores are becoming noticeable.
This is attributed to the irregularity of international flights after
September 11.
