(GUANTÁNAMO, CUBA, November 23, 2001) - Political prisoner and
prisoner of conscience Jorge Luís Larrazábal Zulueta was the
object of physical and emotional abuse by prison authorities in the Provincial
Prison of Combinado in Guantánamo.
On November 17th, while Prison officials kept Larrazábal Zulueta in
the punishment section known as "Carril de la Muerte" (literally
translates to death lane), official Ramón Jiménez, accompanied by
two other officials broke everything inside Larrazábal Zulueta's cell
including his personal belongings.
Upon his return, Larrazábal Zulueta, denounced the above mentioned
vandalism, and as a response he was insulted, pushed and beaten by the above
mentioned official. Such action is characteristic of the repression against
those that openly and peacefully oppose the totalitarian regime of the autocrat
Fidel Castro.
Larrazábal Zulueta was returned to the punishment section of the
prison known as "Carril de la Muerte".
