Police harasses family of acussed in relation to the Elian Gonzalez' case

MATANZAS, 18 de may (Caridad Díaz Beltrán, Lux Info Press) - The police has taken to harass and threaten the family of the six men involved and waiting sentence for helping the group in which Elian Gonzalez and his mother left the island.

"They keep pressuring me so I won't give any information about my brother", expressed Miguel Hernández Santos, from Cardenas, brother of one of the accused, Pedro Hernández Santos.

On May 8 Miguel received a citation to the offices of Security of the State (DSE) for the next day. There he was informed that the case in which his brother was involved was "in the hands of Fidel Castro and top government officials, who are going to decide their fate", he said.

"This is a political case then", points Miguel Hernández Santos, and adds he told the officer that he will continue to speak up for his brother.

The prisoners are Pedro Hernández Santos, Francisco Gutiérrez Pérez, Jorge Luis Chao Muñiz, Julio Regalado García, and the brothers Leonel and Víctor Pupo Rodríguez. They are being kept in the maximum-security prison Combinado del Sur, in Matanzas. There is still no date set for the trial.
