Accounts frozen on suspicion of fraud

MATANZAS, May 17 (Caridad Díaz Beltrán, Lux Info Press) – The bank accounts of three government-run agricultural cooperatives in Matanzas have been frozen on suspicion of fraud that could amount to as much as 50 million pesos.

Francisco Soberón Valdés, the president of the Credit and Commerce Bank of Cuba (BANDEC) ordered all accounts frozen for the "Flor de Cuba," "Máximo Gómez," and "20 Aniversario" co-ops after allegations surfaced that the three may have been involved in laundering money from illegal business operations. Another company, the Empresa Constructora de Montaje Agroindustial, was also mentioned as a possible participant in the scheme.

The workers in the three affected co-ops have not been able to collect their salaries for the month as a result of the measures.
