Flowers sold out before noon on Mother's Day in Havana

HAVANA, May 15 (Oswaldo de Céspedes, CPI) – Flowers sold out before noon in Havana on Mother's Day in spite of substantial price increases.

Glads were going for up to 5 pesos each, day lilies for 2, and sunflowers for 3 pesos each. Three roses could cost as much as 3 pesos, a spray of daisies 6 pesos and of asters 5 pesos.

In general, a small bouquet bought from unlicensed vendors set customers back between 35 and 40 pesos. Government flower shops offered a few low-quality bouquets at between 20 and 25 pesos, and they ran out early in the day.
