PINAR DEL RIO, May 11 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI) Two
activists of a Cuban Human Rights party were detained May 4 and accused of
cattle rustling and illegal slaughter of cattle.
Horacio Julio Piña Borrego and Abdubel Borrego Manganelles were
arrested on the outskirts of Ciudad Sandino, Pinar del Río province, and
taken at the local police station.
During the seven hour interrogation, an officer of the Department of State
Security who calls himself Arcadio Cisneros walked into the interrogation room
and confiscated the pair's documents, both personal and pertaining to the human
rights organization.
Finally police recorded the two as "suspects of cattle theft and
slaughter."
Both men say that the accusation is a repressive variant employed by the
political police against dissidents.
