Dissidents' trials suspended

HAVANA, May 11 (Regina del Sol, AIDH) – In the last few days the trials of several dissidents have been suspended by the government without a word as to the possible reasons.

The trial of Mario González Rodríguez of the Movimiento Paz, Amor, y Libertad, has now been suspended four times and rescheduled, this time, for May 15 at 9 a.m. González is accused of civil disobedience.

Judicial proceedings against Humberto Mero Arias and Joaquín Barriga, both accused of disrespect directed against Fidel Castro, were suspended April 26. The prosecutor is asking for a three year sentence in the case.

The trial scheduled for May 9 against Isabel del Pino was suspended, as was the one scheduled for May 10 against José Orlando Bridón, of the Confederación Democrática de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTDC), an independent union.
