LA HABANA, 7 de mayo (Reinaldo Cosano Alén) - José Orlando
González Bridón, Secretary General of the independent Confederación
de Trabajadores Democráticos de Cuba (Cuban Democratic Workers'
Confederation), is awaiting trial.
González Bridón is being accused of distribuiting "false
information" and "enemy propaganda". He was detained December
15th, 2000, and has been kept in the infamous Havana jail,
Combinado del Este.
At a press conference Bridón accused the Security of State as the
main responsible of the death of dissident Johana González, murdered by
her husband, saying that it could have been avoided "were the police not
so indifferent". This statement is the main argument used against the
known dissident, who has written extensively against the Cuban government in
the past.
The prosecution is asking for 7 years in prison.
