Dissident's trial set for Wednesday

HAVANA, May 4 (Amarilis Cortina Rey, Cuba-Verdad) – The on again, off again trial of dissident Isabel del Pino has now been set for next Wednesday, May 9, at 2:00 p.m. at the Popular Municipal Tribunal in Centro Habana.

The trial, initially set for April 18, had been first postponed by the Department of State Security and later, arbitrarily set for April 23. Del Pino, who denounced the procedure as "lacking in [constitutional] safeguards" refused to appear and declared herself on a hunger strike.

Three days into the protest, her attorney notified her that the arrest order against her had been set aside. Del Pino's attorney says the charges against her are baseless.

Del Pino said government authorities fabricated the charges against her for political reasons.
