Argentina moves ambassador in Havana

BBC News Online. Saturday, 5 May, 2001, 06:47 GMT 07:47 UK

The Argentine Government has ordered its ambassador in Cuba to leave the island permanently after what it described as the renewed verbal aggressions of the Cuban authorities.

Cuba had criticised those countries - including Argentina - which voted for a resolution critical to Cuba at the United Nations Human Rights Commission last month .

The Argentine Government had already temporarily recalled its ambassador from Havana following remarks by the Cuban President Fidel Castro, who accused Argentina of, as he put it, licking the Yankee boot.
