Leak imperils workers

HAVANA, May (Luis Viño Zimerman, UPECI) - Workers who have to work with 220-volt electricity in the mechanics’ pits at the Bus depot in East Havana are daily imperiled by standing water leaking from a storage tank in the vicinity.

The tank, built to supply the "Villa Panamericana" doesn’t have a float and routinely

overflows. The water flows downhill along the Avenida de Casablanca to the bus terminal and repair yard, where it pools in the mechanics’ pits. No one quite knows how long the tank has been leaking, but two years ago, a local magazine had an article on the problem, with comments by local functionaries.

Recently there have been water shortages in the area. Some residential buildings have been without water for up to two weeks at a stretch.
