HAVANA, May 1 (Manuel David Orrio, CPI) - The office of the Public Notary
for the Plaza de la Revolución municipality in Havana has forbidden its
employees to give information to the public over the phone.
Gonzalo, an architect who spoke on condition his last name not be used, said
he had recently called the office with questions about the necessary paperwork
to register a house he had inherited and was told he had to go to the office in
person in order to get answers.
The Plaza Notarys office serves a population of approximately 100,000
in processing required but routine legal paperwork, in matters primarily related
to housing. Other Notarys offices around the city dispense information
over the phone freely.
No one at the Plaza Notarys office could explain the reasons for the
prohibition.
