Rationing system fails to deliver baby food quota for infants

PINAR DEL RIO, April 27 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI) - Thousands of parents in the Pinar del Río municipality of Consolación del Sur were not able to buy their children’s meager allocation of baby food in February because it simply wasn’t available.

Supplies for March and April were delivered to stores and were available for sale, but February seems to have been a ghost month. Government spokesmen say Cuba has enough food on hand to satisfy all the children’s needs, but parents complain that many of the items are only available in dollar stores, whose prices they can’t afford.
