HAVANA, March 20 (Reverendo Pedro Crespo Jiménez, Grupo Decoro) -
Young men between the ages of 17 and 26 years of age in marginal neighborhoods
of Havana show growing indexes of poverty, frustration, alcoholism, depression
and social dangerousness, according to a recent survey by the independent
ecological organization Naturpaz.
The survey, which took in the areas of Mantilla, Pogolotti, El Fanguito, El
Canal, and Jesús María, showed the young men despairing of chances
of a better life. The only hope evidenced by most of those surveyed was to
emigrate to the United States or other countries.
