HAVANA, March 2 (Carmelo Díaz Fernández, APSIC) - Officials in
charge of the "Agostino Neto," Guantánamos provincial
hospital, do not provide gloves, mops or disinfectant solutions to the cleaning
crews in charge of keeping the facility clean.
Visitors report visibly filthy rooms and hallways in the hospital, as well
as broken or
decrepit chairs and tables in the dining hall.
Workers at the Agostino Neto told our correspondent Pedro Lores that food
prepared for hospital workers is poorly made and in any case only consists of
small portions of rice and split peas.
Workers in the cleaning crews work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and earn 135 pesos
a month, or less than 6.50 dollars at the official exchange rate.
