BEIJING: China will continue its support for Cuba in its fight for national
independence and the cause of socialist construction, China told Cuban Foreign
Minister Felipe Perez Roque on Thursday.
Perez Roque, who is visiting Beijing this week, thanked the Chinese
government for its continued support, adding that Cuba is pleased with the
continuous development of relations with China, the official Xinhua news agency
said.
China also thanked Cuba for its firm support on issues including human
rights and its fight for reunification with Taiwan, said Chinese Vice Premier
Qian Qichen, who met with the Cuban foreign minister Thursday.
Perez Roque also met with Chinese President Jiang Zemin Thursday but details
of the meeting have not been revealed by state media.
The two countries have close political and trade relations. They signed a
military agreement, the details of which were not released, during a visit to
the island by Chinese People's Liberation Army commander Fu Quanyou late last
year.
