Workers complain that lack of supplies costs them

HAVANA, February 27 (Regina del Sol, AIDH) - Workers at the welding shop in the "Jesús Menéndez" sugar mill, in Las Tunas province, central Cuba, complain that the government's chronic irregularity in supplying materials needed to perform their functions costs them, since they get paid based on performance.

The compensation system was implemented recently to stimulate productivity, but workers say they cannot be productive without the necessary supplies to do their jobs. They also point out that area chiefs and brigade chiefs receive stable salaries, not dependent on production.

The workers have not received any response from the administration or from their government-run union.
