VILLA CLARA, July 20 (Edel José García, CNP) Police raided a
home in the Arroyo Naranjo district of Havana and confiscated 50 video tapes of
movies which were presumbly being rented to neighbors. The owners of the
business were fined 1,500 pesos (about 68 dollars).
Renting video tapes is considered illegal by the government, yet video
rental banks, as they are called here, proliferate, mostly because entertainment
options on the two government-run TV channels are few.
Recently the Ministry of Culture announced it would open several video
rental banks in Havana, but few have any hope of that actually happening.
