Denge fever affects final exams assistance in Old Havana schools

VILLA CLARA, July 20 (Edel José García, CNP) - Denge fever in the city capital has caused the absence of the 10 percent of the Old Havana student population to this year's final exams, said a related source.

Also many professors have admitted to this agency that not only denge fever, but many other ailments, such as hemorrhagic conjunctivitis and influenza, is affecting the students.

The Ministry of Health is fighting the problem, mostly with a fumigation campaign against the mosquito Aedes aegypti, but here it's well known that the efforts have failed. Not only mosquitoes, but other factors as well contribute to disease and need to be corrected, like public waste spaces which bring rodents, and poor nutrition.

The official national press has kept silence on the subject.
