LA HABANA, July 19 (María Elena Rodríguez, Cuba Voz) -
Employees at the Cuban Ministry of Education are selling High School diplomas,
mainly to factory workers worried of the constant laid-offs.
Sources say the rate is 10 dollars a diploma, and that national currency is
not accepted.
"At my job they have reduced personnel twice already", explains a
30 years old worker and mother of two. "Usually the first to go are the
last employed and that have no 'godfather' (someone in the government to help
them). The diploma is expensive but that could be my only way to stay here".
