Asthma patients cannot get medicine

HAVANA, July 16 (Juan Carlos Linares, Cuba Voz) Asthma patients in the Havana municipality of Diez de Octubre complain that the medicine they need, or more to the point, the quota assigned by the government for the month of July, has not arrived at the local pharmacies.

The medicine, known locally as "salbutamol," is a spray which patients must buy only at the pharmacy to which they are assigned based on where they live. When it's available, each patient gets to buy one bottle of it, but of about 50 pharmacies in the area, only six have the medicine.

The medicine is also available on the black market, at 20 pesos (one dollar) the bottle.
