HAVANA, June 29 (Juan Carlos Balmaseda, Cuba Voz) - Authorities at the
Hermanos Ameijeiras hospital in Havana have closed operating rooms and other
facilities due to a break-down in the air conditioning system.
The hospital, considered the flagship of the Cuban health-care system, was
erected by the Castro government at the site of what would have been the
National Bank of Cuba.
Some specialists have said that the reduced ventilation in the building
favors the spread of disease. Patients have complained that "the waiting
rooms have become Turkish baths" due to the heat.
