PINAR DEL RIO, January 18 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI) More
and more often these days Cuban dissidents are reporting a new modality in their
harassment by agents of the State Security organization: they are picked up,
taken for a ride, questioned, often for hours, and eventually released far from
home, to make their own way back.
Such is the case of León Padrón Ascuy, who was arrested the
morning of January 12 at his home in the centric Vedado district of Havana and
released later that afternoon in an outlying suburb. Forcing the dissidents to
make their way home after such an ordeal in Cubas crumbling transportation
system is icing on the cake for the political police.
During his ride with police, Padrón was extensively questioned about
his activities as a collaborator in the Center for Social Studies, a dissident
organization here, and his relationship with Héctor Palacio Ruiz, the
Centers director.
