John Lennon’s glasses stolen again from Havana statue

HAVANA, February 21 (Manuel Vázquez Portal, Grupo Decoro) - Someone has again stolen the eyeglasses from the statue of Beatle John Lennon in a Havana park, this time in spite of a special adhesive developed by a team of scientific researchers at the Interior Ministry, according to Cuban Television.

The statue, erected last year, lost its glasses for the first time a few days after it was

inaugurated. After that incident, researchers from the Interior Ministry developed an adhesive that would keep the glasses securely attached to the statue. Government television’s national news further revealed that the adhesive had received a prize at the last Science and Technology forum.

A further irony is that the Beatles’ music was strictly forbidden during the years when the British group was at the height of its popularity as a "noxious foreign influence" on Cuban youth.
