The government signed a treaty with Cuba on Sunday to end double taxation
between the two countries.
This means that Lebanese companies in Cuba, or Cuban companies in
Lebanon, will be taxed in only one country.
The agreement, which was signed by Finance Minster Fouad Siniora and Cuban
International Trade and Economic Affairs Minister Ricardo Prisas, is the latest
in a number of economic agreements signed between the two countries, including a
1995 pledge to encourage reciprocal investment.
Prisas said Cuba had spent the past five years trying to repair its economy
by forging economic ties other countries. The result, he said, was that the
economy has grown 4.4 percent a year during that time. Cubas economy has
suffered heavily since the break-up of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s.
