PINAR DEL RIO, April 1 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI) - Poor hygiene
and apathy on the part of medical personnel endanger patients health at
the León Cuervo Hospital in Pinar del Río, according to someone
who spent several days at
the facility.
Zurama Gamboa Romero said, "There are mice and cockroaches everywhere,
and many toilets are stopped-up, releasing a stench through the facility."
About the personnel, she added, "They lazily take their time in caring for
the patients, or do it unwillingly."
Regarding government assertions that Cuba is a medical power and that health
care is free for all, Gamboa said "Free can end up being very expensive."
