ATHENS Mayor Dimitris Avramopoulos held talks with Cuban President Fidel
Castro on March 28, during his official visit to Havana at the invitation of the
city's mayor. Castro expressed a wish to visit Greece during the 2004 Olympics
and accepted an invitation extended by Avramopoulos. During the talks, the Cuban
leader referred to his country's difficult relations with the US and the
consequences of the continuing embargo. Avramopoulos and Havana Mayor Conrado
Martinez Corona signed an agreement for cooperation between the two capitals.
After Cuba, Avramopoulos visited Panama before flying to the US on March 29 for
contacts with New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and representatives of the
Greek-American community.
