HAVANA, September 8 (Fara Armenteros, UPECI) Two-year-old Rachel Franco Morales recently took a dose of Intal, a medicine she has been taking for some time to treat her asthma, and had an allergic reaction. Her parents checked the label in the bottle and found that the medicine had
expired in September 1999.
Someone who didnt want to be identified by name told the parents that "the Public Health Minister directed us to write in pencil on the box that the medicine expired in September 2000."
Intal (Sodium Cromoglycate Capsules) is imported by the Ministry from the Shanghai Sine Pharmaceutical Corp, Ltd. and distributed through the cumbersome rationing system. The batch that caused little Rachels allergic reaction is batch No. 70901, manufactured in September 1997 and expiring
in September 1999.
