HAVANA, September 4 (Manuel David Orrio, CPI) Opticians selling in the dollar economy in Havana have been short on stock lately, adding to Cubans woes in procuring necessary eyewear.
It goes without saying that if a certain item is not available in the dollar economy, it certainly wont be found in the peso economy.
Reading glasses are particularly hard to find. The stores at Miramar and Arrinda, two of the main establishments specializing in these lines, have not had reading glasses with the most popular correction. They are on order, according to a sales clerk, but she didnt know how long it would
take to get them.
A pair of these glasses, if they had them to sell, sell for the equivalent of 180 pesos, or almost a months salary for the average Cuban worker.
